The Texas City - La Marque Chamber of Commerce was recognized by Houston Business Journal as #5 on the list of largest Houston Area Chambers of Commerce.  Rankings were Greater Houston Partnership at #1, followed by Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce.


College of the Mainland Trustees call for $162.5 million bond election.With students and their success as the focus, the College of the Mainland Board of Trustees unanimously approved calling for a $162.5 million November bond election to expand the aging Texas City campus with plans for three new buildings.  The bond election, which was called following a recommendation from community members, calls for the construction of a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)/Allied Health building, Industrial Careers building and a Student Success Center which will house all student enrollment offices such as admissions, financial aid and advising.


La Marque High School Alumna Christina Hall-Payne joined the TCISD   July 12 as the district’s new Director or Development & Community Relations and Executive Director of TCISD’s Foundation for the Future.


Saltgrass Crossing Section No. 2 in La Marque Crews have begun work on roughly 150 houses on 40 acres in this new development, with access at Saltgrass Springs Lane off FM 2004 and Saltgrass Point Boulevard off FM 1765.  The new houses will be for lease.


Trails at Woodhaven Lakes Rooftops are planned for La Marque’s new subdivision located at FM 1765 and Delany Road.


Cottages approved for Texas City Dike Mark McKim has plans to develop 30 rental cottages at 290 Dike Road.  The attached pictures are of the style that will be built.  The artist rendering is what the multi-tenant building will look like. It contains 3 ADA rooms, office, laundry, and managers apartment upstairs.  Rooms as well as the kitchen are fully furnished with all cutlery, toaster, coffee maker, blender, etc.  Mark plans to start construction in late October with completion in March, 2019.


Texas City plans $8.1M in repairs to roads near refineries An $8.1 million rehabilitation of Fourth and Fifth avenues is a critical project because of the roadway’s proximity to nearby refineries.  Texas City commissioners recently approved submitting an application for a revamp of Fourth and Fifth avenues south from State Highway 146 to Loop 197 South to get funding support from the Houston-Galveston Area Council.


Coastal Legislative Tour Texas legislators will be invited to tour the area September 27-28-29-30.  The Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce and Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce are coordinating the schedule for this important opportunity for our Texas State Representatives and Texas State Senators to learn more about our coastal area.


Coastal spine public hearings expected in November Public hearings about a massive coastal storm-surge barrier proposed for the Galveston area are scheduled to start in November, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.  Corps officials said they were finalizing plans for what a coastal spine in Galveston area would like and groups involved in the corps process said they expect the chosen design to be a barrier along the coast, rather than inland.
